Ametherm’s SURGE-GARD™ Inrush Current Limiters and NTC Disc Thermistors Now in Stock at IBS Electronics

CARSON CITY, Nev. — July 29, 2014 — Ametherm today announced that global electronic components distributor IBS Electronics is now stocking the company’s SURGE-GARD™ line of inrush current limiters and NTC disc thermistors for high-accuracy temperature measurement. Recently acquired by Ametherm from Measurement Specialties (formerly RTI Electronics), the components are available worldwide via IBS Electronics’ website, www.ibselectronics.com.

Ametherm’s SURGE-GARD series devices are capable of handling high steady-state currents to 36 A and input energy to 250 J. Constructed of specially formulated metal oxide ceramic materials, the thermistors are optimized for a wide variety of applications that require inrush current limiting to reduce circuit failure — including switching power supplies, AC motors, motor drives, audio amplifiers, and battery chargers. Available in multiple leaded package options with maximum diameters from 7.6 mm to 31.75 mm, the components offer resistance at +25 °C (R25) from 0.4 Ω to 220 Ω with tolerances down to ±10%, maximum operating voltage to 265 VRMS, and beta from 3000 °K to 3965 °K.

NTC disc thermistors from Ametherm deliver high stability and maximum sensitivity for temperature measurement, compensation, and control in applications such as fan motor controls, fluid levels, and temperature sensors in a wide range of end products. With diameters from 2.54 mm to 12.7 mm and profiles from 0.64 mm to 5.33 mm, the NTC disc thermistors feature resistance at 25 °C from 4 Ω to 150 kΩ, precision tolerances to 1%, beta from 3000 °K to 5000 °K, and high-temperature operation to +150 °C. The devices offer dissipation constants from 3 mw/°C to 17 mw/°C and thermal time constants down to 5 s.

“Ametherm’s SURGE-GARD current limiters and NTC disc thermistors make a great addition to our offering of passive components,” said Rob Tavi, managing director at IBS Electronics. “By stocking these devices, we are ensuring that our customers around the world have convenient access to unmatched circuit protection for a wide range of applications and the precision performance required for high-accuracy temperature measurement.”

“Designers have been relying on the reliable circuit protection offered by SURGE-GARD for the past 40 years, and our NTC disc thermistors are building a loyal following of their own by helping to lower overall solution costs,” said Mehdi Samii, vice president of engineering at Ametherm. “We are proud to have IBS Electronics stocking both of these solutions and making their benefits more readily available to the company’s customers.”

Samples and production quantities of the SURGE-GARD current limiters and NTC disc thermistors are available now, with lead times of five to six weeks for large orders. Volume pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.30 per piece for SURGE-GARD components and $0.40 per piece for NTC disc thermistors.
